Balanced Games
Lopsided games are no fun for anyone. Most SSHL games are competitive because all players in the league are rated and assigned to levels by the SSHL, NOT the players themselves. We also use the ratings to create balanced teams. No dominant players + No dominant teams = More fun for you!
Beginner Friendly
The SSHL is considered a Recreational Level Hockey League. Our lowest level (Bronze) is exclusively for new/newer players and older players who have lost a step or two. Faster, more skilled players are required to play in our higher levels, allowing new players to have more fun and develop as hockey players!
A League for Adults
The SSHL is a league for adults who want to have friendly competition, get some exercise, have some fun, and above all else, stay safe! All players must agree to and abide by our Code of Conduct, or they will be suspended or removed from the league. The average age of players is 43+, and we have players as old as 70.
Hockey Community
The SSHL is built around community, not just the game itself. Playing hockey and hanging out at the rink should be fun! New team jerseys every season, active social media accounts, and a Championship party at the end of the season are just some of the ways that we try to make the SSHL fun. A hockey league built by hockey players for hockey players!
Am I too new for the SSHL?
Probably not. You need to be able to skate ok and stop. We recommend at least a little experience playing hockey, in a class or on your own. If you are BRAND NEW to skating/hockey, you can signup for our Learn to Play Hockey class or practice at stick & puck, public skate, etc.
Am I too good for the SSHL?
The SSHL is for beginning players (Bronze Level) up to about C3 (Gold Level). If you are a higher level player who has years of experience you are probably too good for the SSHL. See more detail on the SSHL Levels, or reach out to us with questions.
What if I don't know my level?
All players who play in the SSHL are given a player rating and assigned to a level. If you are a new player, we will have you attend our evaluation skate and/or will reach out to get you rated. The SSHL will assign you to a level and team.
I'm new to the SSHL...how do I join a team?
All players sign up individually and the SSHL will assign you to a level and a team for this season. Every season we will build new teams so you will get to know everyone in the league and to mix things up.
Can I play with a friend?
Yes! You are allowed to pair/play with one friend or family member. Please visit the Resources page on the website for the link to the Google form with rules and instructions.
Do you have payment plans?
Yes. The default payment plan is $150 down, and monthly payments of $100 for three months during the season. If you need to work out a different payment arrangement, please contact us.
